How long have you been a coach?
I opened my coaching practice in July 2024.
In addition, I have been accompanying people in prison as a volunteer since 2020. Why is this relevant? From my experience visiting people in prison, I engage in non-judgmental active listening, understanding that each person does their best with the resources they have in the moment. As much as I can empathize with someone’s emotion or situation, I have no idea what it is like for them. As such, I work with clients to implement new skills while encouraging self-compassion for their previous efforts.
What is your approach to coaching teens, college students or adults with ADHD?
My approach is founded on these main principles:
- Contextual
- Non-judgemental
- Practical
I engage with clients from the perspective of a peer who is diagnosed with ADHD, and then some. My own continuous journey of struggles and strengths informs my understanding of ADHD and the impact it brings to daily life. I help individuals find their balance between self-acceptance, self-improvement, and self-compassion. And since there is no one-size-fits all mold for neurodivergent experiences, I invite each person to share and define their stories as they see them and I share what evidence from science and lived experiences tell us about both recurring and exceptional phenomena across ADHD.
How many clients with ADHD have you coached?
My client list mainly comprises of adults and adolescents with ADHD.
Where my clients vary is their journey with diagnosis. Some clients are recently diagnosed and want to learn more. Others have been diagnosed for a long time and are looking to top up the skills and strategies they already have in place. And finally, some do not have a diagnosis, but they clearly observe difficulties with executive function most commonly associated with ADHD.
In this case, I am not in a position to validate a diagnosis. What I can do is work with clients on setting specific goals, providing psychoeducation, as well as observing, monitoring, and managing certain symptoms.
The main benefits to getting an official diagnosis are
- To confirm whether the symptoms are the result of ADHD or/and other similar conditions. Difficulties with executive functions can also stem comorbidities like anxiety or temporary struggles with stress, lack of sleep, etc.
- To receive a more in depth understanding of ADHD symptoms you struggle with most.
- To explore medical treatments (medication, etc)
